RECENT EVENTS
JUNE 17 - Public Private Partnership- Government and business working cooperatively to cost-effectively provice public services and facilities
Across the country, governments are being challenged to operate more efficiently and cost-effectively and are turning to public-private partnerships, an accepted tool for serving public needs. The National Council for Public-Private Partnerships is a non-profit, non-partisan organization founded in 1985. Its mission is to advocate and facilitate the formation of public-private partnerships at the federal, state and local levels, where appropriate, and to raise the awareness of governments and businesses of the means by which their cooperation can cost effectively provide the public with quality goods, services and facilities. On June 17 at the Lansdowne Resort Golf Club, Richard Norment, Executive Director of the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships provided an overview of the newest ideas, opportunities, and innovations in the partnership arena.
MAY 7 - Jim Bennett Salute

On May 7, representatives from the entire Metropolitan Washington area honored, James E. Bennett on his retirement from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority after fourteen years of service. As President and CEO, Mr. Bennett has done much more than simply run two major airports. He has been a true regional leader whose contributions will benefit the Washington Metropolitan area for decades to come.
During his tenure, many passenger service quality improvements were made at both Washington Dulles and Reagan National, including the Dulles AeroTrain at Washington Dulles and expanded parking facilities at Reagan National. Mr. Bennett guided the Airports Authority through a period of significant air service expansion while simultaneously undertaking a more than $3 billion investment to expand Washington Dulles in order to accommodate increased air service and passenger volume. In addition to the AeroTrain, these improvements include a new air traffic control tower, an expanded B Concourse, renovation of the main terminal, two new parking garages, improvements to the access highway, and completion of a fourth runway.
Of crucial importance to our region, under Mr. Bennett's leadership, the Airports Authority agreed to operate the Dulles Toll Road and to manage the construction of the new Metrorail line to Loudoun County. This long-awaited project is supported by the vast majority of the region's citizens and businesses and is essential to the economic success of Dulles Airport and the surrounding community.
The position of President and CEO of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority carries a true regional responsibility, as air service is an economic generator and critical to our 21st century economy.
