Transportation Security Administration Team at Dulles to Receive the Committee for Dulles’ “Tower of Dulles” Award
September 8, 2020. The Committee for Dulles has named the Dulles-based Transportation Security Administration (TSA) team as the 2020 recipient of its “Tower of Dulles” award. The honor is presented annually to individuals or organizations whose service provides for the betterment of Washington Dulles International Airport and the Dulles economic corridor.
The TSA team at Dulles provides protection for the traveling public and airport employees. This team consist of approximately 750 professional Transportation Security Officers, Regulatory Inspectors, K-9 handlers, explosive technicians, and administrative staff. During 2019 they screened a daily average of about 32,000 passengers and their accompanying luggage. With the unprecedented impacts from COVID-19, those passenger counts have been reduced by 80%, hitting the airline industry hard. Despite the pandemic, TSA employees have remained steadfast as frontline workers, accepting potential risks in order to provide security to all and facilitate essential travel.
The passenger experience with TSA usually becomes the face for all of Dulles. TSA Officers and staff are trained to give passengers the best experience possible so that all of the Dulles community can benefit. TSA Dulles is the model for wearing of PPE, not just for the protection of themselves but the entire community. Even before the pandemic hit, TSA Dulles regularly piloted innovative programs to benefit the customers and community of Dulles. From ID checks and facial recognition to new baggage screening technologies, TSA Dulles is always at the forefront of technology to make the Dulles customer experience the best.
The Tower of Dulles award has been awarded annually since 1997. This year’s award will be presented at the Committee for Dulles’ 2020 Tower Award Reception on November 19, 2020, at Signature Flight Support. Anyone wishing to attend the Tower Award Reception may register at the Committee for Dulles' website.
