With over 28,000 employees, roughly 27 million passengers annually, and almost $24 billion in economic output tied directly to the airport, Dulles is this region's connection to world markets.

Our History

The Committee for Dulles, founded in 1966, is the oldest member-sponsored organization promoting Washington Dulles International Airport. It is a dynamic nonprofit representing the interests of businesses and individuals in the growth and development of the airport and its surrounding market area.

During its first quarter-century, the Committee played an active role in the dramatic changes across the Dulles area. CFD has testified before Congress, the Virginia General Assembly, and other federal, state, and county agencies on issues vital to the airport and to those who work and live nearby. The Committee has been influential in helping make Washington Dulles International Airport one of the world's preeminent air facilities.

As the importance of the airport and the Dulles region continues to expand, the work of the Committee has become increasingly significant. The organization looks ahead to maintaining the airport as a major economic generator for the region while supporting the people, businesses, and institutions that depend on it.

Across the Washington airports system, more than 46.6 million passengers move through the airports annually and more than 300 businesses operate on their campuses to support airline and related operations. Based on a 2017 IHS market survey, that activity equated to roughly $23.6 billion in annual economic output.
