Dave Kirby is easy to spot at CFD events; just look for the camera and smile! Dave serves on the Board of Directors, is the CFD’s photographer at most events, and has coordinated several interesting outings as a member of the Airline and Activities Committee. Be on the lookout for a summertime visit to the Wright Experience in Warrenton.
He joined the Committee for Dulles in 2006, representing the Town of Herndon after his first election to the Herndon Town Council. Following his service on the Town Council, Dave represented the Herndon Hospitality Association. He continues to represent Herndon as an individual.
Dave and his wife, Mary, have also generously supported the CFD over the years, including sponsoring the annual CFD Gala and contributing to the scholarship program, encouraging scholarships for students entering trade school programs.
In addition to participating in the CFD, Dave is an active member of the Rotary Club of Dulles International Airport and was also active in the Herndon American Legion: Wayne M Kidwell Post 184, serving as Commander for 11 years.
Dave’s first flight was from Dulles to San Antonio, Texas in 1967. Dave served in the US Air Force and then returned to his hometown of Danvers, Massachusetts and worked for two years at an industrial vacuum tube manufacturer, Varian.
Two years later, he got a letter that brought him to the area and sparked his passion for travel. That letter was a job offer from the CIA, where he spent 34 years working as a Telecommunications Information Systems Officer. That job took him around the world where he took advantage of exploring some pretty amazing places. He and Mary will be traveling again next month to visit Dave’s brother in Florida, but he’s itching to get back to international travel, revisiting Europe or checking China and Australia off his “bucket list."
